Got something a little bit different for you today. Not only do I like to order pizza from the comfort of my sofa, I have also been known to make a pizza from scratch. So today I have a cookbook recommendation.

Most of the pizzas I make these days are from the book Pizza: More Than 60 Recipes for Delicious Homemade Pizza by Diane Morgan and Tony Gemignani. I bought it on a whim and have loved it ever since. They’ve got a variety of pizza dough recipes from New York style to Chicago deep dish (which is one of my favorites). These recipes aren’t for the faint of heart. You will be spending several hours making the is dough, in some cases letting it set over night. But the results are always great. I highly recommend getting the book!

Get more information on the book:

If your sauce is bland, don’t be afraid to add it! Try adding BBQ sauce to the mix! Heck, add extra seasoning like oregano or basil.

I recently bought some cheap pizza sauce that will remain nameless because said sauce was on sale; I got 2 or 3 bottles of it for about $5, which is a great deal. The only problem being the sauce is terrible. I should have guessed it right away but at the moment I was caught up in the glory of a sale. This sauce is so watery that it soaks right into the dough leaving the pizza dry, which I hate. So fix the problem I mixed in BBQ sauce – about half and half. Spread it on the pizza, and enjoyed a yummy BBQ pizza 10 minutes later!

This is the second Chicago style deep dish pizza I’ve ever made and hot damn it was tasty. I think the next time I do it I’ll put some garlic butter on the crust after it comes out of the oven, I don’t see how it gets any better than that!

Recipe coming soon…
