If your sauce is bland, don’t be afraid to add it! Try adding BBQ sauce to the mix! Heck, add extra seasoning like oregano or basil.
I recently bought some cheap pizza sauce that will remain nameless because said sauce was on sale; I got 2 or 3 bottles of it for about $5, which is a great deal. The only problem being the sauce is terrible. I should have guessed it right away but at the moment I was caught up in the glory of a sale. This sauce is so watery that it soaks right into the dough leaving the pizza dry, which I hate. So fix the problem I mixed in BBQ sauce – about half and half. Spread it on the pizza, and enjoyed a yummy BBQ pizza 10 minutes later!
Silly people! No premade pizza sauce that ever came from a bottle is ever as good as a homemade sauce! It’s simple, cheap and the ingredients can go a long way! I ran a Tony’s 2 for 1 pizza in the 90’s and I still use the same simple sauce recipie on my own pizzas at home. You can always add yer bbq sauce and what-not to it. I suggest trying to make it yourself. One key is using good quality CRUSHED tomatoes – NOT paste! And KEEP IT SIMPLE! Too much ingredients equals TOO MUCH!!

Himself’s Homemade Thincrust Pizza -Fast: Start with 2 small multigrain tortillas. Place first tortilla and add just small amount of cheese blend toward center. This is the “glue”. Place second tortilla on top. Smear roasted garlic pizza sauce from Sobey’s on top of that. In your big cast iron wok you will have already sauteed ground bison, stoplight peppers, mushrooms and onions. Scoop it on. Maybe a few more drib drabs and spit spots of pizza sauce. More cheese blend now. Cook for 6 minutes @ as hot as toaster oven goes. Edges of top tortilla should curl up and contain contents. Bottom is stuck to top for added support. Chop it in four. Fast finger food; far out, solid and right on!
Heck…I’ve been making pizzas since I was 12 years old, (I am now 50). Yes, making your own is the best, but if you’re in a pinch, I do add BBQ sauce. When I make the hubby a ham & pineapple pizza (doesn’t matter from scratch or even from a Kraft kit) I always add some sweet & sour BBQ sauce & use back bacon…the sweetness compliments the smokiness. I sometimes even had a hot sauce, such as Melinda’s to the pizza sauce…gives it great kick!! And speaking of Italian…try a little mustard in with your spaghetti sauce…gives it a boost, too!!!
